About this app

The ability of myna birds to imitate human speech is comparable to that of parrots, making them among the best mimics in the animal kingdom. These stocky birds have their origins in Asia, but can now be found all over the world thanks to their popularity as pets. The common myna is a bird that is indigenous to Burma, India, and east and west Pakistan. It was brought to many countries in the Pacific, one of which was New Zealand, typically for the purpose of controlling invasive species of invertebrates. Mynas are large, conspicuous passerines. During flight, a large white patch can be seen flashing from each wing, and the head and shoulders are covered in a glossy black plumage that blends into a vinous brown for the rest of the body.
The head and shoulders of a myna are jet black, and the rest of their bodies are a stocky brown color. They typically travel in pairs or in small family groups when they do so. Newly emerged adult primaries are black in color but eventually turn brown. White can be seen at the base of the primaries as well as throughout all the upper and lower coverts. When it is first grown, the tail is jet black, and all of the feathers have white tips. During the breeding season, the white tips fall off.
