About this app

In the Where? app, you can download Norway's main topographic map series 'Norway 1:50 000' to your phone. You will always have access to maps on your phone, even when you are out in the woods and fields and outside the coverage area. If you're wondering where you are, then Where? show you that.

Where? allows you to easily download maps for entire counties, without it taking up too much space on your phone. You can also download maps covering 50 kilometers into Sweden and Finland. The map series 'Norway 1:50 000' has the same content as the military map series 'Beredskapskartet M711', which the Swedish Map Agency produces for the Norwegian Armed Forces. The preparedness map is used by the Armed Forces, the Police, the Civil Defense and similar units for exercises and actions.
The map series is continuously maintained, and it is important to always have the most up-to-date maps possible. The app will therefore remind you that you should download new maps if it has been more than 3 months since you downloaded them.

With Where? can you:
• Always have a map available, without having access to the internet.
• Find out where you are.
• Find out in which direction you are moving.
• Use compass view to show which direction the phone is pointing.
• Show position and coordinates.
• Save positions as 'bookmarks'.

ABOUT GPS USE:
Please note that extensive use of GPS can reduce battery life.

ABOUT NAVIGATION BY BOAT:
Only public charts are to be used when traveling by boat. Therefore, navigational information such as lighthouse and beacon sectors have been removed in the maps used in Where?

ABOUT USING MAPS ON LONGER TRIPS:
If you are going on longer trips, it is also important to have a paper map and compass with you. You can print 'Norway 1:50 000' on paper here: https://kartverket.no/Kart/lag-turkart-for-utskrift/
