About this app

* How to note BPM readings

- Place your index finger as gently as possible on the lens of the phone's back camera.
- Rotate the finger to completely cover the LED flash, but avoid touching it because it might get very hot when switched on.
- Press the START button, then wait 10 seconds before reading the final BPM value.
- This heart rate is within the ACC % range. If the dispersion surpasses 10%, move your finger slightly and repeat the operation. As seen in the image above, the waveform must be homogeneous and have a regular pattern.

* Normal heart rates

- Children (ages 6 - 15, at rest) 70 - 100 beats per minute
- Adults (age 18 and over, at rest) 60 - 100 beats per minute

* Keep in mind that many factors can influence heart rate, including:

- Age, fitness and activity levels
- Being a smoker, having cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol or diabetes
- Air temperature, body position (standing up or lying down, for example)
- Emotions, body size, medications

* Disclaimer

- Discuss with your doctor if it is important for you to assess your heart rate on a regular basis. The heart rate is merely one piece of the jigsaw that is overall heart health and fitness.

* Consult your doctor if you suspect you have:
- a very low pulse rate (under 60, or 40-50 if you're really busy) at rest.
- a very high pulse rate (above 100) at rest; or - an erratic pulse.
